Explorers Project

goes with chapters 1 and 2

Using the information that is provided below in the resource section and other additional sources, you will select the information that will be created, printed on the explorer trading cards or entered into a poster for everyone to see. Good luck! We look forward to seeing your final product!

If you select to create trading cards, keep in mind that they will look similar to Baseball cards, but instead of having batting averages, the cards will have facts about the explorers' major discoveries, decorations, graphics, etc.

Some of you might create a glog (digital poster at www.glogster.com), be sure to include the same information as the trading cards but put it on a digital poster which I will demonstrate how to do. See me for online poster rules and my handout guide.

You need to recommend at least 5 explorers to the "Explorer Hall of Fame" in each set. Each set will go along with what sections in the text you are assigned. You are more than welcome to recommend more than 5 though. Click on this link for directions and resources.

Procedure:
1. Select 5 explorers (or more) from the list below that you think deserve to be entered into the "Explorer Hall of Fame."

You must have my permission to include an explorer not on the list and it must be mentioned in our text.

2. Determine whether you are going to create a set of 5 individual trading cards, an 11x14 paper poster or an online poster about the 5 explorers.
One set per chapter section is good or see me for arrangements.

3. Once you have selected an explorer, go to the Resource section and click on that explorer's name. This will take you to a page where you will find different links about the explorer that will help you find the information needed to complete the cards or poster. There are also other resources, such as books, that will help you find the information needed to complete your cards or glog. You should read about the explorer and fill in the important information on your card or poster. You may read a book about the explorers from my class library.

4. Next, locate a picture of that explorer (You will find pictures on the web sites.).

If you're creating trading cards, print the picture and tape/glue it on the back side of the card or copy and paste it to the backside of the template.

If you're creating a poster, you will copy, print out and paste the picture into your poster; if you are doing an online poster just copy and paste it in from a copyright free site.

5. Enter the explorer data onto the backside of the card or onto the poster next to the picture.

6. Repeat this process until you have the 5 explorer cards or 5 explorers on one poster.

Web Quest on explorers is another option for you to try.
